All I have to say is that after a very long, very stressful, and very chaotic weekend – for reasons that I cannot share at this time – I had to go and eff it all up even more.
How?
I freaking locked my keys in the car, with my baby girl in her car seat buckled up.
Yea. World’s worst mother right here.
Thankfully the husband was not too far and came to unlock the car. And baby girl is fine. Oh, but those 10 minutes…
And while I managed to “play cool” and not let her see me panicked, so as to not scare her, my baby girl is just too smart for all that.
She looked at my keys on the seat next to her and said, “What’s wrong mommy?”
“Nothing baby.”
“How you gonna get your keys to open the door?”
At which point, I just had to laugh. But, only a little. Right before I walked away…to cry hysterically and kick myself for locking the keys in the car!

Haha. I’m sorry. After our experience, for YOU to lock your keys in the car…a little coincidental. Still, I can imagine how scared you were about Baby Girl.
One time I left Max in the car for all of 2 seconds while I walked 6 inches to drop a deposit in the bank. Of course a security guard comes by and tells me not to leave my kid in the car. I don’t know how this relates but felt like sharing!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Susan Payton, I guess it is a bit coincidental. I still can’t believe I did that.

If it makes you feel any better, my mom did this to me for a lot longer once when I was about 2 if I remember correctly. She was trying to tell me how to unlock it..but I obviously needed alone time and would have no part in unlocking it. Don’t worry..I turned out alright! I guess? 🙂
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Kelly, haha Thanks for sharing. I know she’s fine…but it could have been so bad.
Philippa says
I am soo sorry girl … but I just can’t stop laughing. That is soo cute. I know, not what you are thinking at all. But I am sure she is going to be just fine. And you are no where near a bad mommy.
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Philippa, Yea, not sure I follow you there Phil. Not sure I’d use the word cute to describe this. But, yes, she’s fine.
Miss Britt says
Oh honey. You’ve had a looooonnnnnng few days.
But you are NOT a bad mom.
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Miss Britt, Thanks sweetie. And yes, it’s been a loooong week.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about your crazy weekend. If it makes you feel any better, I may have firsthand knowledge of “someone” doing the same thing to her middlest boy. During the Summer. At a soccer field.
They survive and you know you’re not a bad mommy. 🙂
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@2manyboyz, Oh man. You’re right, they do survive. But still… 😉
Chris C. says
Ok so the first thing and most important is that she was ok and you were able to get the car door open. Now, with that out of the way, just imagining it now, sorry, I did laugh alittle. Bad mommy, no way, just one of those situations that happened and after everything was done and said we can look back at it and laugh….and we will laugh 🙂
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Chris C., Ok Chris. You and Phil can laugh, I guess. But, I still haven’t laughed and neither has the big guy. But, yes. She’s ok and we got her out.
