Every time I go grocery shopping it takes me about two hours to get everything I need for my family. That is two hours spent inside a store seeking all the items on my two-week grocery list and God help me if I have one or both kids with me – the level of frustration increases exponentially and by the time I’ve checked out and on my way home I am beyond exhausted. (Have I mentioned that grocery shopping is not my favorite activity?) Maybe it’s just me, but I think this is a similar scenario for many busy parents, which is why I am absolutely in love with the Walmart Grocery Pickup service! Not sure what that is? Let me tell you all about it so that if it’s already available in your area you can start using it TODAY – trust me, you’ll thank me!
FREE Walmart Grocery Pickup Service is a Busy Parent’s Best Friend!
Shopping for groceries will never be the same for me. Seriously, since I started using this new service (which I’ve been using for a few months, before Walmart even asked me to write about it), I only step inside the store for smaller in-between trips and never for the major two-week shopping trip. Here’s how using the Walmart Grocery Pickup Service works.
How to Grocery Shop #LikeABoss with Walmart Grocery Pickup
- Pick your store location and choose a date and time to pick up your groceries.
- Fill your cart with your grocery items and checkout online. (Your card is not officially charged until you pickup your order.)
- The Walmart team at your local store does the grocery shopping for you. (I KNOW, RIGHT???!)
- Head to the store at your designated pickup time and call to let them know you’re there.
- Confirm your order, sign, and your groceries are loaded into your car. You’ll be on your way home within 5 minutes!
So you can get an idea for the process and see how they bring out your groceries, watch this short Snapchat story I shared from a recent grocery order I picked up:
I’m telling you – Walmart Grocery Pickup has completely changed grocery shopping for me! Ordering my groceries online takes me about 15 minutes (the longest part is looking around my kitchen to see what’s missing and thinking ahead as to what I want to cook for the next week or two) and then picking up my groceries takes about 5 minutes. This means grocery shopping has gone from a two-hour ordeal to a process of about 20 minutes!!! Can you see why I love it so much?
In addition to the time-saving factor and convenience of ordering your grocery items online and picking them up curbside style, there are a few other highlights I enjoy about Walmart Grocery Pickup:
- Every item you purchase (from every order) is added to your “favorites” section, making it easy for you to add frequently-purchased items to your cart when you schedule a grocery pickup. (This is how I can order my groceries within 15 minutes!)
- There is no fee for the service.
- You can choose to have items substituted if your specific item is not found. In my experience so far with the service, the Walmart team will try to find a similar flavor or size if your requested item is not found. If nothing similar is found, then they will remove the item from your order and the price is deducted from your total.
- You are shown substituted items upon pickup and can either accept or deny them.
- If you find that you forgot to add an item to your order (or that you actually don’t need something), you can go back and edit your order up to a certain cutoff time before your scheduled pickup time!
- Fresh produce and meats are guaranteed to be fresh. Again, you can always deny an item upon pickup if it’s not to your liking.
- You are not charged for your total order until you sign upon pickup.
I highly encourage you to take a look at Walmart Grocery Pickup and see if it’s already available in your area so you can give it a try for yourself. I see they even have some discount codes available for first time orders! I am sure you’ll love the convenience of the service and the ability to save time so you can knock out one more item from your to-do list and move on with your day!

I have used this service numerous times. there is about a one in five failure rate, meaning there will be at least one, if not more mistakes one out of five shops.
Most common errors:
1) wrong merchandise pulled, even if you specify no substitutions
2) poor quality produce
3) some packers will toss the bags, you produce like bananas and apples will be bruised
4) DO NOT EVER leave without getting the refund or credit for the wrong merchandise. I left the store at the directions of the attendant, that a credit would be issued, and never saw the credit.
5) they ask you to call 20 minutes ahead of time, but it does not good, you wait the same amount of time as when you drive up and let them know you are there
6) I used to tip them, but the whiney kid who brought the groceries out complained to my wife that I yelled at him (which I did not). Apparently when you tell him there is a mistake, that is considered “yelling” at him. It is unprofessional, but then he is probably making minimum wage and does not give a hoot. I met the on line order grocery Manager and he seemed like he cared, but that was in the beginning,
It is convenient, but expect failure.

I am so disappointed to hear this has been your experience. 🙁 This is the exact opposite of mine!!! I have continued using the grocery pickup service and use it about every 2 weeks for my regular household grocery shopping. Each and every time the service has been wonderful, any substitutions have been clearly communicated and shown to me, and my wait time has been no longer than 5 minutes when I drive up. I also receive calls when my order is ready. I’ve only had an issue with produce ONCE; otherwise my items have always been in good condition and the baggers are always careful in taking out the bags and loading my trunk.
It makes sense that each store will have a different experience and service depending on employees, training, etc., but I would encourage you to meet with the store manager since this seems to be an ongoing issue. Hopefully it’s resolved!
