The group of fab 5 superheroes is back again, with original cast members such as Chris Pratt (as Peter Quill), Zoe Saldaña (as Gamora), and Bradley Cooper (voice of Rocket), for more intergalactic adventures set to the tunes of “Awesome Mixtape #2.” Is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 safe for kids and worth a watch? Read our full review to see!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe expands to showcase the Guardians, not so much as underdog misfits any longer, but as characters with depth and transparency. Writer and director James Gunn has found a way to provide an unexpected emotional component for these characters, who explore several deep, personal, and interpersonal family dynamics. This makes for lots of moving moments in this superhero sequel, while also delivering consistent action and comedy-packed scenes. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Guardians movie without some of that great 80’s pop culture, just like we enjoyed in the first!
The group is now for hire to help others in “Vol. 2,” but they quickly become wanted criminals once again, though still finding a way to protect the galaxy. This time they have the help of some new and old friends. While each character (and their developing stories) plays a major role, the plot mostly focuses on figuring out Peter Quill’s interesting lineage. It keeps you on your toes, as just when you think things make sense, there’s another twist in the plot. Some fans might not feel that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 provides as big a bang as the first, but keep in mind this sequel is most likely a stepping stone to more volumes in the GOTG franchise.
Is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Safe for Kids?
Although both hilarious and non-stop, the content of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is definitely more for the grownup crowd. Rated PG-13, I would caution parents to see it first, before introducing it to kids 14 and under, as they may have questions regarding some of the topics in the film. I realize this is an individual decision, so it’s up to you to answer for your family: is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 safe for kids?
In most of Marvel’s history, sequels have topped originals and I don’t doubt that GOTG 2 will follow suit. There are also several end credit scenes to check out, which are worth staying the extra few minutes after the movie is over. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is sure to start the summer movie season off with a bang, zooming in to theaters today, Friday, May 5th!
