When it comes to holiday travel, I can’t say that our family plans an annual trip, but we do like to try to escape during the kids’ school holiday break, even if for a mini road-trip. In the past, we have taken a family holiday trip to the mountain area of Virginia, where we were able to enjoy cozy lodging with a fireplace and play in the snow! It was a great holiday escape for our family who normally experiences warm weather in Florida. That is why nearly every year we have a debate about our holiday family travel. Should we travel north to (hopefully) see snow and get the winter feel or enjoy a sunny escape in a tropical location?
Holiday Family Travel: Does Your Family Like Snow or Sun?
This year, we thought about taking a trip even further north to Wisconsin. Why so far north? Well, we have some family up that way, but also so we could once again see snow during the holidays and have ourselves that white Christmas! I’ll be honest that I am not a fan of the cold – as evidenced by the fact that I will wear gloves here in Florida at a mere 58 degrees! However, for the sake of our holiday family travel adventures, I’m willing to pack on the layers and tough it out a bit. (But, I do need quite a few layers to survive it!)
We also considered booking our family’s first cruise (yes, we’ve never taken a cruise as a family!) to a Caribbean destination. This was a challenge for our Caribbean household since we know there’s a lot of beauty in the Caribbean islands! Choosing an itinerary with just a day or two of stops was proving to be tough.
In the end, due to family circumstances, we’ve decided to postpone our holiday family travel this year – at least on a larger scale – and will likely stay within the state, exploring the holiday offerings Florida has to offer. But, I’m very curious as to how your family decides on snow vs sun for holiday travel!
Will you be traveling this holiday season? What destinations do you normally choose for your holiday family travel?
