Our household has been a fan of pirates for a long time. It’s hard not to be a fan, right? Both of my kids have dressed up as pirates numerous times, and my baby girl has also dressed as Tinker Bell, the famous fairy friend of Peter Pan. We’ve also watched various renditions of the Peter Pan story and my daughter has read the book as well. So, we’re pretty excited and looking forward to watching Peter Pan Live! on NBC tomorrow, Thursday, Dec 4 at 8 pm EST!
To celebrate the showing of Peter Pan Live! we’re going to have a little at-home viewing party. The kids are always up for fun activities and treats, so why not have fun while watching a new version of the Peter Pan story? We were actually sent a cute Peter Pan party pack by the folks at NBC, along with a Walmart gift card to purchase additional party supplies and food. My kids are having a blast playing dress-up with the Peter Pan hats and pirate accessories! There was even a vial of “fairy dust” included! Check out the fun we plan to have while watching Peter Pan Live! tomorrow and get ideas for your own viewing party!
5 Ideas for a Peter Pan Kids’ Party
1. Play Dress-Up
Kids love playing dress-up and something magical happens as they transform themselves into their chosen character. Using the Peter Pan hats and pirate accessories we received, plus a few of our own costume items, I know my kids will have lots of fun pretending to be pirates, Peter Pan, and Tinker Bell. Perhaps your kids can even keep their costumes on as they watch Peter Pan Live!?
2. Have a Puppet Show
Our new crocodile puppet that was in our Peter Pan party pack is already a hit and makes a wonderful addition to our puppet collection! We’re also planning on making a few pirate finger puppets (see template I found) to accompany the crocodile. Together, it’ll make for a fun puppet show the kids can host!
3. Printable Activities and Discussion Starters
Sometimes, talking with my kids is one of the best ways to help them learn. Using the Peter Pan Live! lesson plan and activities available from NBC, my baby boy and girl have already been having fun quizzing us and each other on Peter Pan knowledge. There’s also some great discussion starters and ideas for talking with your kids about the show and making connections to their life and environment, so I know we’ll have some fun conversations after watching Peter Pan Live! I also bought a pack of Tinker Bell stickers I found at Walmart, which they’ll love using to decorate any art work they create!
4. Magical Snacks & Treats
What’s a party without food? Since this is a Peter Pan party, I thought about whimsical and fun food that would bring a little magical pixie dust to our party. As a treat after a proper dinner, we’ll have a fun Peter Pan feast including a Fairy-Dusted Rainbow Cake (decorated with gold sprinkles), Peter Pan Pudding (pistachio flavor), Pirate Ale (cream soda with whipped cream for froth), and of course, we’ll hunt for pirate treasure as we munch on chocolate gold coins!
5. Make Your Own Fairy Dust
We’re lucky to have received our own vial of fairy dust, but you and the kids can make your own right at home! It can be as simple as filling some containers with glitter or you can follow this fairy dust recipe that uses chalk powder. There are plenty more ideas for making your own fairy dust out there, so see which you like best, then have fun with the kids!
Walmart is a presenting sponsor of Peter Pan Live! and you’ll be able to see Melissa Joan Hart and her family reading Peter Pan in short pieces from Walmart aired throughout the show. You can also tweet along with Walmart during the 3-hour show using #PeterPanLive! As you plan your own Peter Pan Live! viewing party with your family, be sure to check out the Peter Pan goodies on Walmart.com to add to your fun. And, don’t forget to tune in to NBC at 8 pm EST to enjoy Peter Pan Live! with your family!
What fun treats would you add to your at-home Peter Pan viewing party?
