I know many of you are gearing up for your kids to head back to school after the Labor Day holiday, but my second grader started her new school year last week. We had a busy last month of summer, including a move to a new city and helping out family, but despite the hectic times, we managed to get settled in our new home and organized for the new school year. Well, somewhat organized – though we still have plenty of boxes to unpack, we did purchase back to school supplies and added to my daughter’s wardrobe with a little back to school clothes shopping!
Unlike last year’s use of school uniforms, we found out her new school does not have a uniform policy, so she was pretty excited to be able to shop with a lot more variety at her disposal to appease her newfound style. Among our back to school shopping trips, we visited Walmart to see what she might like from their girls apparel section. I’ll be honest that I don’t really ever shop for clothing at Walmart since typically in the past I’ve not liked the quality of their clothes. But while visiting the Walmart headquarters early this summer, we met the Walmart apparel team and I learned that they’ve made some changes for the better.
The Walmart apparel team talked to us about how the quality of clothes was changed from last year’s selection, making many of their clothes thicker and stronger to last longer. They also said they took consumer input into consideration and offered longer shirts, shorts, and skirts for girls – that’s definitely something I can support since all too often I have to dig through racks to find appropriate lengths for my tall seven-year-old. Having learned about Walmart’s back to school clothes from the apparel team presentation, I pointed out a few items to my daughter that I had already seen during the trip.
We picked out a few items to round-out her back to school wardrobe, plus some essentials and accessories. To my surprise, one of my daughter’s favorite items was a mustache print dress! (Who knew the current mustache trend would make its way into our household?) My personal favorite is the gray and white striped blazer, which I’m looking forward to her wearing when the weather begins to cool off a bit. At only $6.43 each, we went ahead and purchased another 3/4 sleeve dress, this time a gray dress to pair with pink leggins. We also added a pair of sparkly sneakers and neon earrings to her closet. She’s so happy to have so much color in her wardrobe and I’m happy my baby girl looks and feels great!
Walmart also has deals in the boys apparel department, as well as school uniforms available for purchase online and in-store at some locations.
What type of back to school clothes have your children picked out for the new school year?
