Every year for Easter, we gift the kids with a small basket of goodies and treats as a way to celebrate the holiday. It’s a tradition my mom did with me and one I’m happy to do with my own children! Our baskets are never elaborate or expensive – a few toys along with some candy does the trick to surprise the kids and get them excited. They just enjoy the gesture!
While you can purchase a pre-assembled Easter basket full of goodies, building your own customized Easter basket is super easy with Easter supplies from Walmart! For just about $10 you can put together a fun Easter basket for your little boy or girl, including the cost of the basket itself! Let me show you what I found at my local Walmart and how I put together a simple Easter basket for my boy!
Build Your Own Easter Basket for Kids for Just $10!
You’ll find a varied selection of Easter baskets at Walmart – my store had baskets in all sizes and several types of materials: fabric, woven, straw, felt, plastic buckets, tin buckets, and more! I opted to use a plastic bucket (you’ll find quite a few different colors and designs) since it’s reusable and the kids can use them for holding toys or other items in their room. They sell for only 98 cents, so not only are they a great bargain, but they provide double function!
To fill my baby boy’s Easter basket, I picked up a few things I knew he’d like. I like that all the necessary supplies (Easter grass, eggs, candy, etc.) are placed right by the baskets and that plenty of small toys, books, and games are also pulled out into this seasonal section as well. It just makes the shopping easier to have it all in one area! There are quite a few Easter basket filler items available for $1 or less, but there’s also many other toys, games, candy, and fun items you can choose from at varied price points ranging from $5-10.
I filled my boy’s Easter basket with a bunny jump rope, a space bunny stationery set (which happens to match the look of his basket), TMNT playing cards, a set of Hot Wheels cars to add to his current collection, and chocolate. Because the cars were closer to the $5 price point, his basket did go over $10 by a couple of dollars; had I stuck to a few more $1 items instead, his Easter basket would have stayed well under the $10 mark! So, building your own Easter basket for kids for $10 or under is completely possible, even when you include the cost of the basket (98 cents in this case) and Easter grass (38 cents)! How great is that?!
