Though it’s still hot here in Florida, there is a subtle hint in the air that fall is coming our way! Just in the past couple of days, our high temperatures haven’t gone above 90 degrees (contrary to the just-around-100 degrees we’re used to) and our mornings have been filled with a light breeze. Fall is definitely in the air, so I thought it would be a great time to talk with my baby boy a bit about the upcoming change in seasons.
Using basic school and art supplies you can find at your local Walmart (and probably already have at home), we used art time to create this super easy and simple fall craft for kids! Simple and easy is the best type of craft for my pre-Kindergartener, but this fall handprint tree is great for older kids too, such as my 9-year-old girl. Take a look at what we did and have fun talking about fall with your kids!
Simple Fall Craft for Kids: 5 Things I Love About Fall Handprint Tree
Materials Needed:
- Construction paper in fall colors: yellow, brown, orange, red
- Orange washable tempera paint
- Paintbrush
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil and pen (optional)
How to Make Fall Handprint Tree {Kids Craft}
- Draw or trace a tree trunk on brown construction paper and cut out. Glue onto background paper (we used yellow for ours).
- Paint child’s hand in orange paint and have him/her make handprint above tree trunk, spreading fingers out a bit to create the tree branches.
- While paint dries, draw or trace leaf shapes on various colors and cut out.
- For young kids, write a fun aspect of fall on each leaf for them to choose from. This could be a fall activity, a holiday, or anything your kids may like about fall. Older kids can come up with and write their own ideas on their leaves.
- Glue a leaf onto each finger branch to create a 5 Things I Love About Fall Handprint Tree!
Baby boy chose from a variety of fall activities I had pre-written and even came up with one of his own, saying something he likes about fall is actually “learning about fall!” He also chose Halloween, Thanksgiving, Jack O’ Lanterns, and jumping in leaves (something we’ve not experienced, but that he wants to try). This fall craft was easy to do and gave us a chance to talk about what we typically see and do in fall and learn more about what he likes. My boy also loves being able to paint his hand and make handprints, so this simple fall craft was perfect for him! For more fall craft inspiration, check out the seasonal craft ideas on walmart.com!
