I love simple crafts for kids because they’re easy enough that my 4-year-old can do them without frustration, yet still fun for my 9-year-old! Of course, I also like that they don’t require lots of materials or intricate steps, which is especially good for my not-very-crafty self. With Halloween coming up this month, I wanted a fun and simple Halloween craft the kids and I could do after school. I found a wonderful selection of Halloween washi tape at my local Walmart, which inspired an easy Halloween chalkboard sign we could use to decorate our front entrance!
This Halloween craft is super simple and your kids will love decorating and making their own Happy Halloween chalkboard sign. It works great for a little sign in their room, your front door (if you hang it), or a fun shelf decoration. Either way, this Halloween chalkboard sign craft can be done with 3 simple steps and just a couple of materials you can find at your local Walmart. The best thing is that once Halloween is over, the kids can reuse the chalkboard for playing or as a bedroom sign they can write messages on! Read on to see how to make this easy Halloween kids craft!
Super Easy Happy Halloween Chalkboard Sign {Kids Craft}
Materials Needed:
- Chalkboard frame – I found some in-store for $2.97 each, but this multi-pack would work too!
- Washi tape in Halloween prints and colors – There were lots of pretty Halloween designs in my local Walmart’s craft section for just 96 cents!
- Ribbon in Halloween prints and colors (optional)
- Scissors (optional)
- Glue (optional)
- Chalk
How to (Easily) Create a Halloween Chalkboard Sign with Kids
- Let your kids decorate the chalkboard frame to their liking using the washi tape and ribbon. They can do a simple border design (like my 4 year old did) or get a bit more fancy with their decorations. Let them have fun!
- Once the chalkboard frame is decorated, write Happy Halloween or Trick or Treat with chalk (or anything else you want!).
- You can either add string to the back of your frame to hang up, or like we did, simply set the sign against the wall on a shelf!
