As I shared last week, the kids and I have a themed summer of fun and learning planned with a variety of topics we’re exploring each week. Our #8WeeksofSummerFun began with a Star Wars week full of galactic arts and crafts, reading, and of course, watching Episodes I-VII! The kids loved it and really got into the theme by coming up with their own ideas for fun. (We’ve been sharing snippets of our daily fun on Instagram and Facebook, so be sure you’re following us and look for the #8WeeksofSummerFun tag!)
Heroes: Real Life vs Comics #8WeeksofSummerFun
Our theme this week was Heroes: Real Life vs Comics. We’ve been discussing what it means to be a hero, reading about real-life and comic book heroes, and comparing characteristics of the two. Of course, we also had accompanying activities, arts and crafts time, and other fun sprinkled throughout the week since not every minute of our days is spent on our theme.
This is a fun way to engage both of my kids with one theme since being five years apart, they’re at different stages of interest and education. Since my youngest loves superheroes and action, clearly the comic heroes aspect of our week speaks to him. On the other hand, his older sister is more interested in learning about real-life heroes and reading about notable figures in history. When we come together, though, it works out and both kids have fun with a single theme.
Check out our full #8WeeksofSummerFun plan to see what we have lined up and be sure to check in next week to learn more about our animal safari theme! The kids are looking forward to a week of jungle animal fun!
