Our third theme for our #8WeeksofSummerFun was Jungle Animal Safari, where we had fun exploring with jungle animals! As a reminder, each week this summer, the kids and I have picked a theme for fun and learning, with a variety of activities. Our #8WeeksofSummerFun began with a Star Wars week full of galactic arts and crafts, reading, and of course, watching Episodes I-VII! We then moved on to Heroes: Real Life vs Comics, comparing characteristics of the two and discussing what it means to be a hero. The kids are loving each theme and I love that they’re so engaged, coming up with their own ideas for fun! (We’ve been sharing snippets of our daily fun on Instagram and Facebook, so be sure you’re following us and look for the #8WeeksofSummerFun tag!)
For our Jungle Animal Safari theme, we once again read a variety of books that aligned with our theme (as we do each week) and had animal-themed arts and crafts fun. We actually found some cute paint-by-number kits that were perfect and made art-time super easy for both my 5-year-old and 10-year-old! (Some days they’re all about creating their own art, other days, kits work out great.) In addition, the kids came up with a game that incorporated our jungle animal theme and that also got them moving (something I absolutely loved). It was a simple “call out the animal and act it out while racing” game and it worked wonderfully! The kids really had fun pretending to be jungle animals that I randomly called out and it gave them a chance to get their bodies moving, even though we were in the house!
Check out our full #8WeeksofSummerFun plan to see what we have lined up and be sure to come back and see how we tackled our A Look at Slavery theme.
