As the holidays approach, chances are you’ll be hosting family or friends that visit. While we’re planning on being the visitors for Thanksgiving, there’s a chance we may have family visit us sometime in December. As hosts, we always want our guests to feel welcome and at home, right? Sometimes all it takes is a little extra touch to help provide a wonderful stay for your guests.
I recently watched the BHG Live! stream (sponsored by Walmart) that provided tons of tips for easy and affordable things you can do to help your visitors feel welcome in your home. From tips for decorating to how to put together super easy DIY gifts, the BHG Live! stream gave me lots of inspiration for fall and the coming holidays. Check out how I put into effect one of their tips for the guest room, plus more ideas you can use in your own home!
A Special Touch for Welcoming Guests into Your Home
While watching the BHG Live! stream, I saw some ideas for the guest room that stood out for me. One guest room idea was to create a small welcome station on a table or nightstand for your guests. Specifically, this welcome area includes a framed welcome sign with your home’s WiFi password, so that your guests can always be connected! How cute is that?
Using a 5×7 Better Homes and Garden frame from my local Walmart (under $8!), I printed and framed a welcome sign with space for our WiFi password. To complete my welcome home station, I added a small Better Homes and Garden candle ($5.97), a water bottle, and lotion. Together, these simple items encourage relaxation and show an extra special touch for your guests. Of course, you can customize this to fit your guests’ needs!
Tips for Hosting Holiday Guests
As I mentioned, there were lots more ideas provided during the BHG Live! stream. You can still watch it in its entirety to see these ideas (and more) for yourself, but let me highlight a few that I think you’ll like.
- Dining Room Set Up
- Use a TV stand as a buffet.
- Stack plates on the stand to avoid running back and forth to the kitchen.
- Tie a napkin around silverware using a decorative ribbon to create grab-and-go utensils for your guests.
- Print and frame your meal’s menu to add a special touch to the buffet and avoid the guessing game.
- Use a cake stand for appetizers.
- Outdoor Party
- Use a large basin or bucket filled with ice to hold drinks.
- Have a few throws for crisp fall nights.
- Consider an outdoor chiminea to keep warm.
- DIY Gifts
- Create custom food gifts with DIY hot cocoa or cookie mixes in decorated containers.
- Put together unique gift baskets to fit your loved ones’ or friends’ personalities!
- Use a variety of Better Homes and Garden baskets as the base of your gift rather than a gift bag!
