Have you played Guitar Hero? I didn’t get into it at first; it was mostly my husband who played. But, then we bought Guitar Hero World Tour, which has not just guitars, but also a microphone and drums. Now we all get to play along.
It’s like our own little band. Me on vocals and baby girl on drums accompanying the husband on guitar. (Shhh…don’t tell her the drums aren’t actually connected!)
Last Thanksgiving, some extended family visited and we had a great big karaoke party playing Guitar Hero. It was probably the most fun Thanksgiving I’ve ever had. The kids were not just in a corner playing on their own while the adults talked. It was one big collaborative effort with the kids and adults actually engaging with each other.
But, then our family got to thinking. What if there was a Guitar Hero Latino version? How awesome would that be? We could sing and play along to some great Spanish songs.
You know how certain songs are introduced to the new generation either because an artist they know redoes the song or they hear the songs in video games or TV? For example, Guitar Hero World Tour has songs like Beat It and Livin’ on a Prayer. These are songs that I’m sure my 12 year old nephew or my own daughter would probably not know if it wasn’t for this game. I mean, she might hear the songs from us playing them around the house, but she wouldn’t know them. At the very least, they probably wouldn’t think it was cool since “the old people” listen to them.
The same could happen, but with Spanish songs. And it would be fun!
Of course, some modifications need to be made to the system. The drums would probably need to be more like bongos and you’d probably want the guitar to sound more like a Spanish guitar, not an electric guitar.
What do you guys think? Have you enjoyed Guitar Hero? Wouldn’t a Latino version be fun?
Any Guitar Hero folks out there? How about it?
mom2miahaudrey says
This would be awesome! MANA baby! We love guitar hero and rock band!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@mom2miahaudrey, So true! Mana would be great for Guitar Hero!
Hilly says
That would be awesome. All they’d have to do is release a new game with Spanish songs!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Hilly, Do you think even those that don’t speak Spanish would enjoy it?
cheapdanny says
Our friends brought Guitar Hero to our place once and we played for hours! We still talk about it today… FUN FUN FUN!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@cheapdanny, I love it too. Lots of fun with a big group.
Philippa says
I agree, great idea. You know how much Chris is into guitar hero so you bet I would be there right along with him. Of course I wouldn’t understand most of what the songs were about but when it comes to guitar hero who cares, its the rythm that matters. Hey maybe if this gets made, they will make a reggae one also … hmmmm.
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Philippa, haha, yea I can just *see* me singing along to Buju Banton 😉
Amneris says
I’m from Puerto Rico and I love rock in spanish especially from the 90’s!! Althought I hate Mana… But since the first Guitar Hero and Rock Band came out I hoped that they made a version with latin rock and in my opinion I’d REALLY love that they put in it: Los Rabanes, La Secta All Star (but only their old songs because the new ones suck), Skape, Caramelos De Cianuro, La Ley, and so on. If I kept goind I wouldn’t finish. Anyways in conclusion I’d LOVE it if they made a Guitar Hero of Latin Rock and I just wanted to express myself so thanks for allowing me it. =)
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Amneris, And thank YOU for teaching us so much about latin rock. I think salsa and other latin genres could be used too.
Albert says
That would be great. BTW, the Christian community created Guitar Praise. guitarpraise.com
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Albert, I did not know that. Cool.
Mommy Daddy Blog says
OMG how awesome would that be!? I’m just getting in to GH and I love it although my brain cannot process so many functions at once!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Mommy Daddy Blog, That’s why I sing! lol
Jai says
That would be so great! And a lot of fun too. They should definitely release a Latino version. I would buy a wii just for Guitar Hero Latino. Great idea!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Jai, They have it for all 3 systems I think. But, that’s pretty cool you’d buy the system for the game. 🙂
Morales Castillo says
your right this is such a great idea, latin music is so passionate and so consuming that when you listen to it and play it, its so easy to get lost in it you can easily find yourself lost in a trance enjoying every second. A Latin american guitar hero would be more fun than anyone can imagine i know, . . .
i love salsa, merengue, bachata, but i know all types have the same affect.
ps. i would love to play suavemente by elvis crespo on guitar hero.
(he’s amazing)
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Morales Castillo, I’m so happy that others think this would be a great idea. Maybe one day they’ll actually make it!
Carmen says
I’d love to play spanish Rock!! I played guitar hero once at my sister’s house and we had a good time but if we could rock to our favorite songs, that would be awesome. I grew up with groups like Flans, pandora, Timbiriche, Mana….and singers like Alejandra Guzman! I would love to play guitar hero with these rockers!
I think a Latino Guitar Hero would open up the market to a whole new group of players!
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Carmen, I think you’re right about a new group of players being created if this game was around. Which would be great!
johan says
I want latino guitarhero! And latino band hero too!!!
Cuban guitar hero! Cuban salsa band heroes !!! 🙂
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@johan, jajaja I think any of those would be welcomed!
Guillermo says
I am 30, my nephews got me into video games, Later they introduced Rock Band and Guitar Hero, I gotta say I was over joyed playing these games.. When I found out they made a Metallica game I went nuts cause its my favorite band. Metallica’s game hit so hard that I even got my mother to come over and sing some songs she learned while yelling at me to turn it down, then when World tour came out with la bamba and eye of the tiger she decided that Saturdays is family game night, but we do feel somewhat empty due to the lack of Spanish, We need a little Spanish Rock, but we need some Puerto Rican salsa or Bolero, Some Mexican “sing at the top of your lungs” Juan Gabriel and Some Dominican Bachata. Think of it like a party, when people get together they put on music that makes you vibe, I have non-Spanish speaking friends that ask me to make them several Spanish mixed C.D.s for parties.. I actually came across this site because I just got a text from my mother who herd a rumor that it might be in the works and wanted to know if it was true. Look at the time people! 2am and she calls for this! lol. We need it, it would be great.. And dont feel bad, my song plays the unplugged drums too and makes fun of us cause he never gets boo’s off stage. Save my email, lets follow up!
Guillermo says
@Guillermo, That was a typo, I meant my son plays the drums.
Melanie (Modern Mami) says
@Guillermo, I’m so glad that you found my site! Too funny about your mom texting you with the rumor. I’ll have to look into that. I think all Spanish genres you named would work. I would love to sing some Marc Anthony, but I’m just a little biased. 😉
Hope you keep visiting so we can stay in touch!
Lizbeth says
It would only be the best thing created! Cafe Tacuba, Mana, Panda… why can’t someone creat it already!
Melanie (ModernMami) says
That’s how I feel too! They need to get on it. 😉
jhb says
hell yeah!
jose obdulio says
JUANES will be great!!!
chikachula says
I'VE BEEN THINKING OF THIS SINCE THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED! I'm from Puerto Rico too, and I would absolutely LOVE to play: Mana, Shakira, La Secta, Ricky Martin, Soda Stereo, Cultura Profetica, Cafe Tacuba, Enanitos Verdes, Gloria Trevi, Belanova, Manu Chao, Ricardo Arjona, and more. Theres is also a lot of artists that sing both spanish and english and that would be great too. This would obviously be a product for spanish speaking people, it would be really hard for other people to learn the lyrics. They sould really make the spanish rock band hero and just market it for latin american people. I would definitly buy it!!
modernmami says
I'm glad you agree! But, I don't think this would ONLY be a product for Spanish speakers. I think even those that don't would enjoy the music and playing along on the guitar/drums. And, like you said, there are many Latino artists that have songs in English and Spanish, so those songs could be used.
Spyderweb says
yeah dude! they have to come up with a ROCKBAND LATINO or GUITAR HERO LATINO….and have some of the classics of MANA, PRISIONEROS, VILMA PALMA E VAMPIROS, FABULOSOS CADILLACS, SODA STEREO, PEDRO SUAREZ VERTIZ, EL TRI, ENANITOS VERDES, ANDRES CALAMARO, Y JUANES…..it would be a HIT…no doubt…
modernmami says
I agree. I think it would go well with many folks.

i am looking for a latino guitar hero, some mana, enanitos verdes, juanes, and so on…
please keep me posted if it does come to be! =)

Haven’t heard any news about it, but hopefully they consider it one day!
Nyclady says
I’ve been wanting this since I purchased Guitar Hero World Tour. They can easily make a Spanish Rock version of Guitar Hero. We have plenty of talented rock bands. They can even make a Latin version that includes Bachata being that Bachata is all about the guitar.
modernmami says
I think there’s a lot of opportunity for various Spanish versions – rock, as
you mentioned, but also other genres, especially since there are drums in
the Guitar Hero line now.
DIZZLE says
they should make guitar hero: MANA VS JAGUARES
Venturas says
A cuban guitar hero right now!!!!!
Playing on timbales Elito reve, tirso duarte, van van, maykel blanco, or even rumba or columbia from muñequitos de matanzas or Rumberos de cuba, that would be awesome!!!
Michelle says
I’ve been googling Guitar Hero Latino & Guitar Hero Spanish version and got your site. I’m surprised that they still haven’t come out with this version yet. They’d make a killing in Latin America & here in the US. My family would love to play this at our get together.
How can we go about petitioning the company to produce a Spanish version? Have you heard of any other corporation making something similar? It’s such a great opportunity & untapped market!
I just played Guitar Hero last night for the first time ever at my sister’s friends’ house & I’m hooked. I wish there was a Spanish version to share with my Mom, aunts, uncles & cousins! I’d vote for including all genres and old time artists too like Rocio Durcal and Luis Miguel. That way everyone in the family of all ages could participate. It’d be hilarious watching & videotaping my older relatives belt out tunes like young kids.
Do you know if anything’s in development with artists like Mark Anthony and Gloria Estefan. I imagine that this would be a lucrative licensing deal for so many Latin American artists given the ardent interest of millions of fans like us. I’m always surprised at how late in the game American companies get when they realize the profit potential of the Hispanic market. I’m probably typical of that widespread demographic – first generation, one Latino parent, bilingual & bicultural, with a large extended family of aunts, uncles & cousins who get together often for family parties and dinners. Having a Spanish version of Guitar Hero with a mix of genres to appeal to all generations would unite the family even further. I would buy it in a heartbeat & I don’t even play video games.
Melanie Edwards says
I’m just as surprised as you are that this version of the game still doesn’t exist!
Michelle says
Artists that I’d personally like to see: Rocio Durcal, Juan Gabriel, Ricardo Montaner, Juan Luis Guerra, Mana, Magneto, Juanes, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Aventura, Julio & Enrique Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, Thalia, Mark Anthony, Elvis Crespo (especially “Suavemente”), Luis Miguel, Carlos Vive (bayonato)
