The new Toy Story Land addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida recently opened up in late June. Our family was invited to explore the fun Toy Story Land has to offer as guests of the Disney Parks team and we loved hanging out in Andy’s room! There are a lot of great details and you’ll love the new rides and entertainment, so let me share a few tips for visiting Toy Story Land as a family to help make your time a little easier.
What’s New at Toy Story Land?
Before I get into our tips for visiting Toy Story Land and making your time stress-free, let’s get into the main details of what you’ll find. Toy Story Land expands on the previously existing Toy Story Mania! attraction, adding the family-friendly roller coaster Slinky Dog Dash and the spinning ride Alien Swirling Saucers. There’s also a new restaurant, Woody’s Lunch Box, which I’ll share more about below, as well as entertainment and lots of beautiful scenery to look at inspired by the Toy Story movies!
5 Tips for Visiting Toy Story Land as a Family!
1. Protect Yourself from the Sun
Toy Story Land is beautiful to see, but it is fairly wide open with a small amount of covered areas. The majority of shade I found was under the umbrellas in the seating area for Woody’s Lunch Box. That means that with our hot Florida sun, you will really feel the heat. I strongly suggest you bring sunscreen and hats for your family and stay hydrated.
2. Use Mobile Ordering at Woody’s Lunch Box
Woody’s Lunch Box is the newest restaurant at Disney’s Hollywood Studios offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with meals inspired by Andy’s lunch box and other Toy Story-themed American food. Woody’s Lunch Box is not an indoor restaurant, but rather a walk-up window restaurant (a la food truck style) with outside seating. Since it is the only restaurant in Toy Story Land, depending on the time of day you order, the lines can be long. Because of this, I suggest you take advantage of mobile ordering to cut down on your waiting time! (You might also consider eating during less popular times to help you find seating.)
3. Bring Ponchos & Brave the Rain
Summers in Florida are notorious for daily thunderstorms and this summer has been especially wet with near-daily rain at all times of the day. While some rides will shut down due to weather, others will remain open. It’s a great time to throw on ponchos and brave the rain (depending on the intensity, of course) to take advantage of decreased crowds and lines.
4. Prepare for Long Wait Times
Long wait times are expected when you visit Walt Disney World, but whenever new rides launch, the wait times and lines are increasingly long. Help your little ones know what to expect and prepare them for the wait ahead of time. You can also try the following ideas to help ease long wait times:
Try Out Play Disney Parks App
The new Play Disney Parks app has interactive activities you can explore while waiting in certain ride queues. At Toy Story Land, you can find this fun at Toy Story Mania! and Slinky Dog Dash, which should help the family pass the time while waiting!
Make FastPass+ Reservation If Able
Though challenging to come by a reservation and while you can only reserve a FastPass+ for one Toy Story Land attraction at a time, try to grab one if you can to help with your day’s time management.
5. Take Advantage of Photo Ops and Fun Entertainment Throughout
You’ll find plenty of entertainment in addition to the rides throughout Toy Story Land! The Green Army Patrol sets up with interactive games for the kids to join and you can also occasionally catch their drum line parading the land. Of course, there’s also character meet and greets with Woody, Buzz, and Jessie making appearances throughout the day. Plus, with so many great details and Toy Story sights to see around the area, there’s a lot of photo opportunities for your family to remember your fun day at Toy Story Land!
Toy Story Land is fun for the whole family! With some advance planning and these tips for visiting Toy Story Land, you can get through the current crowds due to the popularity from its recent opening and enjoy all Toy Story Land has to offer!
