Tallest. Fastest. Longest. These are the descriptors for the newest roller coaster to join central Florida’s already impressive lineup. It goes by the name of Mako and you can only find it at SeaWorld.
SeaWorld Orlando has always made its mark as a theme park devoted to celebrating marine life. However, over the years it has sought to add more excitement to its offerings with various roller coasters. Rides like Kraken and Manta merged marine life themes with thrilling, gravity-defying experiences. The latest addition, Mako, owes its inspiration to a mackerel shark that currently has a conservation status of threatened.
While this ride officially becomes the fifth coaster at SeaWorld, it really belongs in a class all its own. In fact SeaWorld refers to Mako as a hypercoaster and we can definitely see why. Mako can accelerate all the way up to 73 mph and wastes no time in doing so. Guests are catapulted into this speed after an initial 200 ft drop that will leave you breathless. This cannot be overstated enough: Mako is not for the faint of heart.
Mako carries a height restriction of 4’6” but this alone is not enough of a precaution for some people. Even if you have children that meet this height restriction, you may decide not to allow them to ride. We have experienced our fair share of roller coasters here in the central Florida area, but nothing comes close to the intensity of Mako. And so that is perhaps the best advice we can offer parents. If any of the other roller coasters your child has ridden has proven to be too much, then Mako is definitely not for you.
Please don’t think that this ride doesn’t come recommended though. For the truly adventurous, Mako is an exhilarating adrenaline rush. While this might be a stretch even for tweens, we believe that many teenagers out there will want to conquer Mako again and again. However, if you have little ones, we recommend checking out Shamu Express, a kid-friendly coaster for those younger thrill seekers.
But those who want the ultimate thrill ride need not look any further. Mako awaits, if you dare.
