Celebrating holidays is a great and easy way to have fun as a family. Our family celebrates some holidays more than others, but with the kids, we’ve found that even a minor celebration can open the door to learning about traditions, history, and culture. Growing up, the Fourth of July was not a major holiday in neither mine nor my husband’s household, but it’s gained more recognition now that we have our own children. Learning about the United States’ Independence Day and its historical value is definitely something worth celebrating. We don’t go all out, but spending time together as a family and simply acknowledging the holiday can be enough. Check out a few simple ideas for family-friendly, fun, and safe ways to celebrate this year’s Fourth of July!
3 Ideas for a Fun (and Safe) Fourth of July with Your Family!
- Have a picnic in the park: Bring out your picnic blanket and fill your basket with goodies for a fun and relaxing Fourth of July with your family! You can have fun with the holiday and pack an assortment of red, white, and blue treats that your family will love. Be sure to pack plenty of Capri Sun juice drinks too, so your family can stay hydrated while having fun!
- Enjoy a family or community BBQ: Spark up the grill and enjoy the warm summer weather with a BBQ! Whether it’s just your household, extended family and friends, or a neighborhood get-together, a BBQ is a fun way to spend the Fourth of July. - Watch fireworks or spark your own: Without a doubt, fireworks are a huge part of Fourth of July celebrations. You and your family can enjoy community firework displays or (safely) spark your own in your driveway. Of course, I’m not talking about huge fireworks, but smaller ones that are safe enough for a fun display at home.
