We’re pretty lucky that our kids are good about going to sleep. Though I hear some parents’ horror stories about kids stalling before bedtime, we’ve never had that issue! Our oldest daughter would wake up at night and end up in our bed, but neither her nor her younger brother have ever really been bad about not wanting to go to bed. I’m counting my blessings on this, because I can’t imagine dealing with bedtime tantrums due to stalling and sleepy kids. I do know that it took some training – it’s not like our kids magically knew that bedtime was non-negotiable. Here are a few tips I can share about our kids’ bedtime routine that has helped us to stop the stall. Plus, learn all about Sleep Number’s SleepIQ Kids bed and how it can help you and your kids get a better night’s rest!
5 Ways to Help Stop Bedtime Stalling
- Bath time is relax time. Bathing at night seems to help our kids relax. It’s that first step that signifies bedtime is nearing and helps their mind and body prepare to rest.
- Read a book. We try our best to have a nightly story time with our kids. Whether we read to them or they read a little to us (our 4-year-old is practicing his reading skills), it helps them continue their relaxing routine by taking time to read.
- Listen to music. Putting on some soft, relaxing music is especially good for babies. But, it can also be helpful for toddlers and older kids to help them relax for the night!
- Talk about the day. Sitting down to talk about the day with your kids is a great way to wind down and help them relax. I find this time often opens up the lines of communication (especially with our 9-year-old girl) for questions, random thoughts, or concerns the kids have.
- Be consistent. One of the most important things we do with our kids’ bedtime routine is be consistent. We pretty much always get them to bed at the same time each night, which has helped with their own internal clock. They begin to get tired on their own at night and often ask to go to bed!
Sleep Number SleepIQ Kids Bed
To help your kids sleep better at night (so they can concentrate at school, sports, and have the best day possible), you can take advantage of new bed systems and designs. Just like you invest in your sleep quality by purchasing the best bed possible (for your budget) and best pillows, why not consider doing the same for your children? Sleep Number’s SleepIQ Kids bed is a smart bed that’s designed to work with kids’ sleep needs and habits and is the only bed that adjusts as your kids grow!
The SleepIQ Kids bed has a lot of cool features. Kids can adjust the firmness of the bed (the Sleep Number) and can raise the head-tilt to their liking. Personally, this would be a great feature for my kids since they both suffer from allergies and we use a second pillow to lift their head at night! Kids will love the under-bed lights that provide soft lighting for middle-of-the-night wake-ups, the monster detector that provides reassurance, and the in-app stars that reward a good night’s sleep! You’ll love the ability to track your child’s sleep quality with the SleepIQ dashboard and the alerts you can receive if your little one hops out of bed. Plus, you can turn lights off remotely – something that’s great for saving energy, but also allows you to appease your child’s fear of darkness.
Available in twin, full, or queen sizes, the SleepIQ Kids bed system has a starting price of $799.99 and is available exclusively at Sleep Number stores and their online store. To learn more about the SleepIQ Kids bed, check out the video below and head to your nearest Sleep Number store!

Great tips. Consistency is key. My kids are very difficult to get to bed, but we still stick to our routine because if we don’t it’s even harder. At least with consistency they know what to expect and don’t think they can get out of it.
Melanie Edwards says
Right. Knowing that bedtime is non-negotiable is key for them.

Those were exactly the steps Babushka used on The Trio. However, now that BB has The Grands, they have no curfew when they’re visiting. ; ) BB2U
