As the first month of 2018 is coming to an end (did I really just type that out?), I’m starting to seriously focus on this year’s financial goals for our family. One of those goals is to outline our children’s college savings plans. We’re hoping to set them up with enough college savings that when combined with earned scholarships, they’ll be able to avoid student loans for a debt-free college experience. With the college savings plans options available from the Florida Prepaid Program, helping our 6th and 1st graders get on the right path to avoid student loan debt shouldn’t be too hard. And we can do that starting right now, before open enrollment ends February 28 – read on to learn more!
Avoid Student Loan Debt with Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans
Did you know that student loan debt has reached $1 trillion of debt among Americans? Unfortunately, my husband and I are both part of that $1 trillion as we each have our share of student loan debt. His is significantly larger than mine since he attended a private college and his loans paid for all of his college studies. My loans were used to pay for dormitory housing only, as I had a 100% tuition scholarship that paid for all 4 years of my college studies. The dorm was actually my choice and had I stayed at home with my parents, I would not have any student loan debt. But alas…when you’re young, you don’t make the wisest decisions and you follow your heart, so here I am many years later with a student loan payment, but no real regrets. (Be sure to look into the Florida Prepaid University Dormitory Plan add-on that would help with such costs!)
