5 Simple (and Fun) Activities To Do with Kids This Summer!

The summer months inspire plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy as a family. The hot weather calls for swimming, while the bright sun beckons you to enjoy the outdoors. Summer is a time to create long-lasting family memories and have fun with the kids. Our family summers tend to include a few beach trips, outdoor play, and often-times, playing tourist in our own city.

We do have very hot weather here in Florida, though, particularly in the latter part of summer. This means that our outdoor activities need to be accompanied by plenty of fluids, so as to stay hydrated. The kids easily get tired and flustered after playing outside for an extended time and are constantly asking for a drink. While we want to enjoy our summer fun, we also want to be smart! Summer Fun as a Family: 5 Activities To Do with Kids This Summer!

  1. Pack a picnic: An outdoor picnic is a great way to enjoy the sun and get some fresh air. It’s a fun family activity, yet one that won’t overwork the kids.
  2. Head to the beach: We’re lucky to have beautiful beaches within an hour’s drive, so we always make a few trips to the beach each summer! The kids love playing in the sand and seeing the ocean.
  3. Enjoy the pool: If, like us, you have a community pool in your neighborhood or are fortunate to have your own in-home pool, be sure to take advantage of it this summer! My girl and I try to head to our community pool once a week, and as a family, we do so on the weekend, when time allows. The kids get plenty of swimming practice in and it helps us cool off from the heat!
  4. Play outside: One of the easiest, most fun activities for the summer is to simply play outside in your yard. Let the kids run around, making up their own games, riding their bikes, getting creative with sidewalk chalk, or any other outside activities they enjoy!
  5. Visit a local park: I’m sure you have a variety of local parks near you that would make for a great day out as a family. Whether letting the kids run off some energy on the park’s playground, flying kites, or hiking a trail as a family, local parks are a great, easy way to have fun this summer.

With all those family summer activities you’ll be doing with the kids, it’s important to stay hydrated. It’ll be no fun if someone gets sick, so packing appropriate drinks on your family outings is a good idea. I love to take Capri Sun juice drinks with us when we head out for a day of fun.     We already took a trip to Myrtle Beach. Now I’m just staying home waiting for baby #4 to arrive.

    We have done several festivals, a school wide enrichment program, and will be leaving on a beach vacation in about 1 week. We have had a nice summer and the weather has been great.

    This summer, I already went on my backpacking trip. Also, at the end of August we will be going to the beach for a week with the family.

    Summer is about over, we didn’t really have plans, but we went to the ocean for our birthday and anniversary, now we are working on tearing down the place we live in and bringing in a new home. Cannot wait, only bad thing is it is HOT and we will be tenting it for about 3 weeks, not fun.
