As busy parents, I’m sure you’re always looking for fun and different breakfast ideas for your kids. I know I sure am! When I visited the Walmart headquarters over the summer we were provided with a lot of different ideas, some of them including ways we could incorporate yogurt into breakfast. Outside of just eating yogurt with granola and fruit, they showed us how to use yogurt to create dips, fillings, and to kick up our eggs (especially when using Greek yogurt). You can find lots of yogurt recipes on Walmart.com for just about every occasion, by the way!
One recipe we were shown, using Rice Krispies cereal, really stuck with me since it’s super kid-friendly and I knew my kids would have fun with it and enjoy eating it. Let me tell you all about this great breakfast idea that would also work as an easy after-school snack! Watch the video below then scroll down for the full recipe details!
Fun & Easy Kids’ Breakfast Idea! Rice Krispies PB Dipped Fruit Recipe
*Recipe courtesy of Kellogg’s Healthy Beginnings
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup yogurt, plain or vanilla – I used Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Nonfat Yogurt
- 3 Tbsp creamy peanut butter
- 1 Tbsp milk
- 1 1/2 tsp sugar (optional) – I did not use
- 1 cup Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
- Fruit slices – I used apple slices, but you could use pears, such as in the original recipe, or bananas on toothpicks, etc.
Directions
- In small bowl, whisk together yogurt and peanut buttter.
- Add in milk and whisk to combine. (Add in sugar if you desire and whisk again.)
- Place cereal on a small plate.
- Dip fruit slices into peanut butter mixture, then roll in cereal.
Isn’t that easy to make? It tastes great and it’s fun for the kids to dip the fruit and roll it in the cereal! I left out the sugar because I honestly don’t think it’s necessary, since the sweetness from the Rice Krispies cereal and the vanilla yogurt is enough. As I was preparing this for the first time at home, I started thinking that this not only works as a fun breakfast idea, it makes for a great after-school snack too! In fact, if you prepare the dip ahead of time and package it along with the fruit and cereal in separate containers, you could also send this with your child as part of his or her lunch!
