While my daughter and I love smoothies, interestingly enough, I don’t make them very often at home. They’re super simple to make, and yet, I always seem to forget to break out my blender and add my favorite fruit combinations! Not only are smoothies easy to make, they’re also great as part of breakfast or as a quick snack, so really, I need to be taking advantage of this more! My goal in the coming months is to prepare make-ahead smoothie packs with pre-cut fruits, so I can just easily toss them into the blender. I also need to be sure our blender is more accessible (no more storing it in the back-of-the-cupboard!) to inspire more frequent use. I’m confident with these simple changes in our routine, I’ll be motivated to make smoothies more often and try such smoothie recipes like these featured on Walmart.com!
One smoothie recipe in particular that I tried recently was their mango avocado smoothie. I already love both mango and avocado, but had never thought to combine them into a drink, though I’ve had them mixed within a salad. As I looked over the recipe ingredient list, I saw flavors that I already love: mango, orange, avocado, and coconut. My daughter is also a fan of mango and coconut, so I thought this smoothie recipe was one she’d like (and hopefully she wouldn’t notice the avocado too much!). Check out how easy it is to put together this mango avocado smoothie recipe and consider taking advantage of the ease and health benefits of smoothies as part of your breakfast!
Mango Avocado Smoothie Recipe
*Recipe courtesy of Walmart
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups frozen mango
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2–1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 avocado
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes – I found Wild Oats Marketplace Organic at my local Walmart store for less than $2.
- 2 Tbsp chia seeds
Directions
- Add all ingredients to a blender and mix until smooth.
The above is one of many smoothie recipes Walmart has on their site and asked us to try. Though it was fine as-is and I would personally drink it to reap the health benefits, I made it again and modified it a bit to appease my kids’ taste buds better. Here is my modified version:
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen mango
- 1 1/2 cups orange juice
- 1/2 cup almond milk (Vanilla flavor)
- 1/2 avocado, diced
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes
- honey, to taste
Whether you enjoy a smoothie for breakfast or as a quick on-the-go snack, you can create a variety of fun smoothie recipes by trying different fruit combinations and flavors. What are some of your family’s favorite smoothie recipes?
