I’m a fan of easy desserts and with the Fourth of July holiday being upon us, I thought I would try something new and different with my family this year. You may know that I don’t exactly consider myself a baker, so easy, simple, no-fuss desserts are especially my kind of desserts. Assembling this biscuit and berries dessert, akin to a strawberry biscuit shortcake, definitely fits that description – the recipe has few ingredients, the steps aren’t complicated, and most importantly, it’s delicious!
Using fresh strawberries and blueberries from the Walmart produce department, plus a few basic baking ingredients, you’ll be able to put this red white and blue dessert together just in time for this weekend’s 4th of July festivities! Remember that Walmart has a 100% freshness guarantee for produce – if you’re not satisfied with your produce purchase, take your receipt back to the store and you’ll receive a full refund.
This 4th of July strawberry biscuit shortcake is also a great dessert for the kids to help you make. My eight-year-old daughter had a lot of fun helping me out – she rinsed out the fruits, measured and poured the sugar, and even assembled a few of the desserts for the family! Ready to see how easy it is to make this red, white, and blue dessert for Fourth of July?
4th of July Strawberry Biscuit Shortcake {Recipe}
Ingredients
- Biscuits – I used Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Original Biscuits, 8 count package. You could also make your own from scratch!
- Strawberries, about 5 makes enough sauce for about 5-6 desserts
- Blueberries
- 2 Tbsp sugar (or Splenda for a sugar-free version)
- Whipped cream – I used Kraft Sugar Free Cool Whip to keep with our sugar-free dessert, but any whipped cream will do
Directions
Bake biscuits according to package directions.
Cut strawberries into quarters, removing the stems. You want the strawberries to be small enough so they’ll be easy to mash.
In a small bowl, mash strawberries using a potato masher or similar tool. Add sugar. Stir and mix well.
Place half a biscuit on plate, layer a spoonful of strawberry sauce over biscuit, add a dollop of whipped cream, then sprinkle a few blueberries over the top. Place the other half of biscuit on top, if you desire, or eat as-is.
Isn’t that so simple to make? I think your family will enjoy this fun 4th of July inspired strawberry biscuit shortcake; I know mine did!
