My girl is really into watching musicals these days; she loves to sing along to the songs! One classic musical she hadn’t yet seen was Annie, a movie from my childhood that was recently revived. With the release of the new Annie movie on Blu-ray and DVD last week, now your children can enjoy the story of Annie in a whole new (more modern) way! We had a fun family movie night watching Annie thanks to the Annie Blu-ray and DVD gift set we received. Check out our family movie night ideas and why we think you should definitely pick up Annie at your local Walmart store!
We love watching movies as a family and it’s something I also shared with my own parents and brothers. It’s a great, relaxing way to spend time together, plus it sparks up lots of conversation in our household! Here are a few ways to make family movie night fun with your kids, as you watch the new Annie.
5 Fun Family Movie Night Ideas!
- Enjoy a delicious popcorn snack mix: My kids love creating different combinations of flavors for their snacks, so a popcorn snack mix like this one we previously shared is perfect for them and great for our family movie nights!
- Have fun with coloring and activity sheets: A lot of movies have coloring or activity sheets for kids available that encourage kids to engage with the story. Such is the case for Annie – you’ll find coloring sheets, maze activities, paper dolls, and lyric sheets for your kids to have fun with while watching the movie! - Spark up a conversation with your kids: We really enjoy discussing movies with our kids and sometimes that leads to pretty interesting topics. Being that we’re a multicultural household, it was great for my daughter to see herself reflected in this version of Annie. Annie’s talent, charisma, perseverance, and infectious optimism, were all wonderful qualities to see portrayed in a young girl. Plus, the movie does a great job of touching on a variety of important messages in a lighthearted manner, making it easy for you to speak about them with your kids!
- Compare and contrast: Before watching the new Annie, we actually watched the 1982 version. This allowed my daughter to compare and contrast the movies, noting some similarities and various changes. Similarly, many children’s movies are based on books or folktales, providing another opportunity to compare and contrast. And, if the movie you watch as a family is an original storyline, then perhaps you can compare and contrast with real life!
- Sing or dance along: Since Annie is a musical, it’s easy to sing along (especially if you print out the lyric sheets below)! But, you could also dance along to various scenes to get the family up and moving and add a fun twist to your family movie night!
Hopefully these simple family movie night ideas will make watching movies with your kids even more fun! We love the experience and adding activities and fun snacks to our family movie nights always makes for a special time as a family. Be sure to head to your local Walmart to pick up their exclusive Annie Blu-ray and DVD gift set, including a cute Sandy plush dog and digital movie copy, all for only $24.96!
