Now in theaters is the latest installment in the Muppets franchise, Muppets Most Wanted. The film takes place immediately after the events of the Muppets’ last adventure. And we do mean immediately after, as the opening scene takes place on Hollywood Boulevard where 2011’s The Muppets concluded. From there, the hilarity ensues as the gang performs the opening musical number, “We’re Doing a Sequel”, which pokes fun at Hollywood’s penchant for sequels with varying degrees of success. After discarding some ludicrous plot ideas for the sequel, the Muppets gang eventually settles on a European tour backed by Dominic Badguy played by Ricky Gervais.
Unbeknownst to the gang, their beloved ring leader Kermit the Frog has been replaced by a doppelgänger named Constantine who happens to be the most dangerous criminal mastermind in the world.
Hijinks are aplenty as the Muppets go from city to city performing to sold out shows while Constantine and Badguy play up their roles of dastardly villains on an international crime spree. The film offers some truly laugh-out-loud moments, mostly from Tina Fey’s portrayal of Nadya, a Russian prison guard whose inmates include Kermit, the victim of mistaken identity.
Fey’s over the top performance and hilarious accent is matched if not surpassed by Ty Burrell who plays a French Interpol agent who joins Sam Eagle in an attempt to capture the villains.
Throughout the movie are plenty of celebrity cameos as is typical in a Muppets film. Celine Dion gets an extended cameo alongside Miss Piggy. Disney provided this quote from Miss Piggy herself in which she spoke about the Canadian songstress: “With a little help from moi, I think Celine may have a big future in singing.” Indeed, Miss Piggy.
Also kudos to those who are able to recognize Tom Hiddleston of Thor fame. You’ll have to see the movie yourself to find out what role he plays. Easy to recognize is the movie’s appeal to young kids and the young at heart. Those who are already fans of The Muppets can expect another worthy addition to the franchise. If you have little ones that perhaps haven’t been properly introduced to The Muppets, then this is a good introduction to a cast of characters the whole family can enjoy.
More Muppets Fun for Kids and Families!
The fun doesn’t need to end after the credits roll (and we do recommend staying until the end of the credits). Disney is encouraging all Muppets fans to join in on the search for Constantine and enter for a chance to win a trip for 4 to the Aulani Disney Resort in Hawaii. Get your kids in on the fun by going to Disney.com/CatchConstantine. First you will need to print and cut out Constantine. Then take a selfie with you and Constantine in your kids’ favorite hiding place. Upload the picture to Instagram with the hashtag #CatchConstantineSweeps for a chance to win the trip to Hawaii! You have until March 30 to enter, so don’t wait too long.

In addition to staying until the end of Muppets Most Wanted, we also recommend arriving early to ensure you watch the latest Pixar short that precedes the Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted film. The characters from Monsters University return for Party Central, a fun take on the stereotypical frat party with a role reversal on the age old monsters-in-the-closet childhood fear.
Muppets Most Wanted is rated PG and is in theaters today! Be sure to let us know how you and the kids like it!
