The Smurfs are back with the opening of their new movie, The Smurfs 2, which opened in theaters today! My family and I had a chance to check out the movie this past weekend, thanks to our ongoing partnership with Walmart. Let me share what we thought about The Smurfs 2, plus a pretty fun deal you can only get at Walmart!
The Smurfs 2 focuses on Smurfette and her journey in finding out who she is and where she came from. Through that, she finds that family does not necessarily mean who “made” you, but that family can be so much more. While I personally did not enjoy the movie as much as I have other animated films, the kids seemed to enjoy it and it did have a few really funny moments. Of course, the film’s themes of friendship and family looking out for each other regardless of how you came to be a family are great on their own.
Young kids will enjoy The Smurfs 2 – the ones in the theater certainly did! Since Gargamel is not exactly a super-scary villain, even the youngest of kids should be fine to watch The Smurfs 2. My two-year-old was able to sit through the majority of the movie before getting a little antsy, and was only scared during one scene. Even then, it was a minor case of “I’m scared,” and with a little comforting from me, he continued to watch.
One highlight of The Smurfs 2 is two new characters, the Naughties Vexy and Hackus. They’re pretty cute and my daughter thought it was nice to see another female Smurf. She actually was also pleased to find out how Smurfette came to be and why she’s the only female Smurf; my daughter loves intricate details of stories, so it was perfect for her to have a few a-ha moments and complete the puzzle.
Walmart has partnered up with The Smurfs 2 to bring Smurfs fans a fun entertainment pack to enjoy the movie this summer. The Smurfs 2 Movie Value Pack includes a movie ticket to see The Smurfs 2, pre-purchase of The Smurfs 2 Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack, The Smurfs DVD, and a chance to win a West Coast Customs Smurfs Dash electric vehicle – a great way to get the Smurfs fun going in your home, isn’t it?
Which is your favorite Smurfs character? Do you plan on taking the kids to watch The Smurfs 2 this weekend?
