My kids start their school year next week – can you believe they’re already in 4th grade and pre-K? As they head back to school, I am looking forward to spending a bit more time with my baby boy since he’ll only be in pre-K for three hours each day. After that, we’ll be hanging out each afternoon for some mommy and son time until his big sister gets out of school and our evening routine begins.
With me working from home and soon having my littlest home with me for a chunk of the day, you can imagine my daily look is more casual than business. I am all about comfortable clothes that allow me to go from drop-off to pick-up and everything in-between, including occasional blogging events, daily work, and even light housework and errands. My daily routine hardly ever allows for heels, but I am also not one to wear yoga pants outside the house.
On that monthly date night my son’s preschool hosts, though, I do take advantage of a night out with my husband to dress up and don some heels! Being that date night is always held on a Friday, that means I go from picking up the kids at school to setting them up with a bit of dinner and then heading out with my beloved. Switching from a day to night look is crucial for date night since I don’t have a lot of time in-between. Check out one particular look that works for both day and night with some slight changes in accessories. It’s turning out to be a preferred back to school day to night look of mine!
Back to School Style Idea: Day to Night Look for Busy Moms!
As I mentioned, I love a comfortable, yet fun look. My daughter is currently very much into graphic shirts and my son is into superheroes. As I browsed my local Walmart, I came across a black Batman tee in the Juniors section that stood out to me and that I knew would be a hit with both kids. I immediately thought of pairing it with my black Converse sneakers and some jeggings. Not far from where I found the shirt, I picked up a pair of Faded Glory black jeggings priced at $12.44. Then, I headed to the handbag section and found a great pewter purse to go with my new outfit. It’s also roomy, which is great for holding everything the kids seem to give me and miscellaneous papers I seem to collect during errands. You know how that goes, right?
Since our date nights don’t usually require formal attire, I knew this outfit wouldn’t require much to go from day to night. In thinking about how I could turn this casual day look into an evening look for a dinner and movie date night, I decided to add a black blazer and heeled boots. An all-black outfit can look great for a fun night out! To add a bit of shine, though, I found a gold chain belt near the handbags at Walmart to complete my date night look.
Going from a day to night look doesn’t have to be difficult. With a few accessories, a change of shoes, change of purse, or even adding to your makeup, you can easily dress up a casual outfit! The next time my son’s preschool has date night for us parents, I’ll have a great outfit that works all day for me and will also look great for our evening out!
